Description
This is a comprehensive book on the how-to of amateur boatbuilding, tools and their use, equipment, materials, and the right way to do each job.
Of the twelve boat designs worked out in this book, six of them have been built in the author's yard or basement. These designs were selected primarily because they are well-suited for amateur builders. They are all safe boats insofar as they are harder to capsize than most boats of their type and won't even sink if they are swamped.
The author advises on the use and types of lumber and on the use of the necessary tools. He suggests that if one's workspace is small the builder might be wise to make part of his or her boat during the long winter hours and then assemble it in the spring in the garage or backyard. For this reason, he gives detailed instructions and line drawings on how to build a keel, a frame, a centerboard, and a rudder. He closes his book with a fine chapter on the care and maintenance of the finished product and a complete glossary of boatbuilding terms. - from Amzon
